Not reyt good at this blogging lark am I?

Every now and then I get these notions that I'm gonna up my posting and blah blah, but let's be honest, these plans are so half baked you can still taste the raw pie crust.

Anyway! Today I had my practical assessment and I passed :D didn't know I was doing it until my 5th patient in but you know, a pass is a pass and my clinical tutor said (and I quote) "your patient care is excellent, and I like how you can change your methods depending on the patient, you can't teach things like that, its something you develop on" so once again, my time in diving has helped me (seems the 300 quid offset mam payed for me to start was more than to get me into a hobby, but an investment in my future)

Other than that nothing spectacular happened, so here's a list of things I had to take xrays of for assessment:

A childs elbow
An ankle
2 chests
2 knees (on the same patient though)
About 4 different fingers
A hand
A wrist
A foot
And some others I think (can't really remember what I was assessed on because I didn't know I was being assessed :P)

And for my efforts I earned a 2 hour lunch break, so can't be bad eh?!

proper loving my course right now, you see some minging stuff but you get some interesting stuff coming through as well.

Erm, nothing really to add

If tomorrows interesting yous might get an update, if not, you won't :P

Uppy downy weekend

Lots has happened this weekend, but most of the bad ones I don't feel should be posted on a public blog.

Went back to burnley this weekend, which resulted in once again, me and mam falling out, and me and jake ignoring each other for most of it.

Was nice to be back somewhere other than carlisle though.

Spent a loonnggg time chatting with people this weekend, its amazing how much you miss when you spend 4-5 weeks away :P

Last week and a half of placement, kinda gutted but also really pleased to not have to be up at 7 every day (although uni time table gets packed after placement :/ so roll on easter)

On my way back to newcastle today after a 5 day weekend, feeling not so refreshed but what can I do?

Kinda seems like I've had an okay weekend, but you know, you have to live it to fully experience it

The body

Having nothing better to do I was just thinking about how the body works (yes, THAT bored) and it's rather complex xD

You move your fingers, you think about moving your fingers, but really, you're tensing muscles in your forearm to pull on the tendons that move the fingers, if you look at your arm when you move your fingers you can see this.

Now, try and move your fingers by moving the muscles in your forearm, difficult? Weird init.

Something to think about

Busses

I seem to spend a lot of time on the bus these days, travelling back and forth between carlisle and newcastle, its actually tiring me out xP but ache well, I digress.

Back to south shields today to do my 4th week of placement :D its been a month but its amazing how far everyone's come, considering at the start we were all bloody useless, couldn't position for anything and just stood and watched, now we actually do things, the qualified radiographers just stand and watch as we do our thing and sometimes make slight adjustments to what we've done, and sometimes don't

Starting to feel like I'm more confident in what I know though, without hesitation I'll set up for, and take, a chest xray (all under supervision of course) and 8-9/10 of the time it'll be good enough to be diagonosticly (spelling error me thinks) relevant or of better quality, then the odd one you cut of the costafrenic (again, spelling) angles and you have to do another xray.

Hands and feet are coming along nicely, need to fine tune some positions to get them up to my level of expectation, but I always criticise my own work harshly, because I think it helps me be a better radiographer in the end.

And my clinical tutor said that the way I deal with patients on there level is superb and isn't something you can teach (hell, who knew, 5 years of diving and being in and around the dive centre has finally paid off)

I know I've made this promise before, but I'm gonna try and make this a more regular thing :)

Oh god D:

Sat on the bus back to carlisle from newcastle, and I just realised, in 226 days I'll be 20, this is neight gute! Barley 5 minutes ago I turned 18 and began legally drinking, now its almost 2 years later

Not liking this one bit xD

Placements going REAALLY well, just get left to do stuff now, slowly getting my technique cards signed, up to level 3 on quite a lot now (chests, hands, feet, wrists to name just a few)

Kinda gutted we've only got 3 weeks left, but I'm glad because it means I'm back to uni and can see people I haven't seen for aagggeesss

Xrayed a breast today without the person attached (it seems every day something super interesting happens to top off the greatness of the day)

Placement

As many of you will know, I'm on radiography placement in south shields hospital for six weeks (halfway through the second now)

And to be honest, its one of the best things I've ever done :D I absolutely love it, dealing with patients is such a challenge but I enjoy looking for ways to over come it :P

The only quibble I have with it is that all this week I have to get a half hour bus ride to jarrow to "work" in a health clinic, its ridiculously early and I don't like busses :P

But I've got my ipod and eminem seems to sort out the journey pretty well.

Looking forward to my first proper back shift at the hospital tomorrow (1-9, which means I'll probably be there later than nine if past experiences are anything to go by)

Errm, nothing else to add right now,

Would love to put a list of my interesting patients, but confidentiality and all that ;)

There's a difference between being smart, and knowing stuff

Smart people can learn quickly, they pick up facts almost without effort

But people that knows stuff, they've spent so long researching and studying the subject, not only do they know what they need to, but they know why something is, because it helps them understand.

Don't disregard someone because they're not smart

If- Rudyard Kipling

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too:
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream---and not make dreams your master;
If you can think---and not make thoughts your aim,
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same:.
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build'em up with worn-out tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings,
And never breathe a word about your loss:
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings---nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much:
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And---which is more---you'll be a Man, my son!
